The North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) awarded funding to Three Rivers Land Trust (TRLT) for a 220-acre wetland conservation easement in Robeson County—one of only 22 projects selected nationwide and the sole recipient in North Carolina.
Located along Big Swamp in the Lumber River basin, this biodiverse site includes 4.3 miles of stream frontage and borders 2,200 acres of protected land.
“This funding will greatly benefit water quality and wildlife habitat,” said Emily Callicutt, TRLT’s Director of Conservation.

This Valentine’s Day, TRLT’s land management team is adding a little spice to the forest with prescribed fire! By carefully thinning dense loblolly pines, the fire promotes healthy longleaf pine growth and enhances plant diversity. The result? Thriving wildlife habitats, including improved cover and nutrition for wild turkeys.

This is the third consecutive year of funding from SC Johnson, highlighting the company’s commitment to local communities. The grant will help conserve prime agricultural land across 15 counties.
