Spencer Woods: Stanback Educational Forest and Park is a 42-acre passive park protected through a partnership with The LandTrust and the Town of Spencer. It is an urban forest of beech and oak-hickory forest hiding within the town of Spencer, NC. Acquired by The LandTrust for Central NC in 2011, it was transferred to the Town of Spencer in honor of nationally noted environmental philanthropist Fred Stanback Jr. who grew up nearby. There are two small gravel parking lots off of Rowan Ave, and easy hiking loops for visitors. No bicycles or motorized vehicles are allowed. The park closes at dark.
