Join us on one or more of our fun events this summer and fall! We are having another paddle series similar to last year, and our next paddle opportu nity will be on July 29 starting at 8:30 AM. We’ll float the Rocky River from the Hwy 52 access to the Pee Dee National Wildlife Refuge. This is a new put-in thanks to the Carolina Thread Trail and the City of Norwood. This put-in is approximately where Riverview Road and Highway 52 meet south of Norwood.
Paddle fees are as follows: Non-members: $35 if bringing your own boat; includes a one year membership with The LandTrust; $45 to reserve a boat; includes a one year membership with The LandTrust. Members with The LandTrust; Free if bringing your own boat; $10 to reserve a boat. Boat reservations are for single kayaks only. Call Alicia at 704-647-0302 to reserve your spot or click here to register online. All participants must RSVP.
On August 2nd and 3rd we will be hosting a Hunter Education course in the building where our office is located, the Gateway Building, at 204 East Innes Street, Salisbury NC 28144. This class is free and open to the public on a first come first serve basis with a limit of 20 people. It will run from 6:00pm to 9:00pm both nights. This 6-hour course is required for all first-time hunting license buyers in North Carolina. Certification is accepted in every state and province in North America. You can register at https://www.register-ed.com/events/view/84161? online.
For a chance to get your hands dirty for a worthwhile cause, come out and join us on August 3rd as we clean out and repair an old barn on one of our conservation lands. This address is approximately 1483 Point Road, Mocksville NC and we will begin around 8:30am. Lunch will be provided.
On August 12th we will have a Perseid Meteor Watch with an option to camp out, with the location on a conserved property in the Uwharries. There is a limit of 20 people for this event. Learn more and register here, or contact Alicia at 704-647-0302 or alicia@landtrustcnc.org.
Future paddles are scheduled for September 17 and November 13. On Saturday, September 17th we will paddle the Uwharrie River from Low Water Bridge to Highway 109. This is the trip we had planned to do during our naturalist weekend and the river was too high for a safe float and we had to cancel, so we hope you can join us this time. Be on the lookout for bald eagles and river otters on this picturesque stretch of river!
On November 13th we will paddle at the Narrows, also known as Falls Reservoir. This access is off Falls Road just outside of the town of Badin. This undeveloped lake should be beautiful with fall colors this time of year. Yadkin River Goldenrod, a rare plant, may also still be in bloom. Read more about this float at http://landtrustcnc.org/2014/the-narrows/ on our website.
