Uwharrie River

The LandTrust is particularly proud of its work to preserve the beautiful Uwharrie River. There are numerous remote and scenic stretches that can be paddled thanks to our conservation efforts. We encourage you to enjoy this beautiful waterway soon!

1. Paddle down the Uwharrie River from High Pine Church Road to Low Water Bridge

Primary Route: Put in on the south side of the road and the west side of the river.
Distance: 7.3 miles
Put In: Approximately 8050 High Pine Church Road, Asheboro NC 27205
Take Out: 860 Low Water Bridge Road, Troy NC

Directions: The put in access on High Pine Church Road is a bit steep to get down to the river – please exercise caution. Paddle south along the Uwharrie River to Low Water Bridge. Take out on the right side of the river.

2. Paddle down the Uwharrie River along the largest LandTrust protected property

Primary Route: Put in at Low Water Bridge and paddle to the NC 109 bridge access
Distance: 6.8 miles
Put In: 860 Low Water Bridge Road, Troy NC
Take Out: Under the bridge at 3660 NC 109, Troy NC

Directions: Put in at Low Water Bridge and paddle south on the Uwharrie River. The NC 109 bridge is the only bridge along this route. The take out access will be on the right side under the bridge.

3. Paddle from Hwy 109 to Morrow Mountain State Park

Primary Route: Put in at NC 109 bridge access and paddle down to Morrow Mountain
Distance: 8.5 miles
Put In: Under the bridge at 3660 NC 109, Troy NC
Take Out: The Morrow Mountain State Park Boat Ramp has public access. Morrow Mountain State Park: 49104 Morrow Mountain Road, Albemarle NC.

Directions: Put in at the Hwy 109 Access and paddle south on the Uwharrie River. The Uwharrie River intersects with the Yadkin River – paddle straight across the Yadkin to the Boat Ramp.

Note: The LandTrust has sold the Capel property to the Wildlife Resources Commission. It is publicly accessible but there is no formal take-out on the property. Contact the WRC with questions at (901) 439-5103.
