Hike to the summit of Little Long Mountain
Primary Route: From the Joe Moffitt Trailhead, hike to the top of Little Long Mountain on the Uwharrie Trail and enjoy the views

Trailhead: Thayer Road, 35.507617, -79.952957. From NC 109, turn on Ophir Road. Then turn right on Flint Hill Road. Left on Thayer Road. At the fork, keep right to stay on Thayer Road (gravel). The trailhead is located on your right before the Randolph County line. There is an old gate off of the road with a newer gate behind it. A large plaque dedicating the trailhead to Joe Moffitt is located between the old and new gates.
Hiking Directions: From the Joe Moffitt Trailhead on Thayer Road, begin on the Uwharrie Trail to the right of the trailhead plaque. Follow the white blazes. About 50 feet from the trailhead, turn right (south) at the junction to continue following the white blazes. When you encounter gravel road crossings, look for the trail continuing across the road. The top of the mountain is a bald with views of the surrounding mountains and open sky, perfect for eating lunch.
Additional Information: Wearing long pants is recommended as this route has narrow sections with thick grasses. Be aware of ticks and wildlife.
