Join us for a hike on the Uwharrie Trail at Little Long Mountain to celebrate National Trails Day! We will meet at the Joe Moffitt Trailhead (998 Thayer Rd, Troy, NC 27371) at 8:00am and will be finished by 10:00am. This 2-mile total hike will go to the top of Little Long Mountain, at an elevation of approximately 920 feet, it is the only place on the Uwharrie Trail with long-distance views any time of year. There’s a trail shelter at the top where we will stop for a rest break before returning to the trailhead. Bring any water or snacks you might want, and wear long pants and good hiking shoes/boots. You may also want a hat and bug spray. Trekking poles may be useful as well but not required.

Three Rivers Land Trust took out loans to purchase this property from the private landowners who had it, and we acquired it on June 9, 2011. We worked with the US Forest Service to seek funding through the Land and Water Conservation Fund and were able to finally transfer the tract to the US Forest Service on September 3, 2015. We worked with a group of volunteers who eventually became the Uwharrie Trailblazers to build 2 miles of trail on this site over the course of 2 years, through help from an Adopt-A-Trail grant. A portion of this property is still retained by TRLT and has conservation easements on it made possible through the NC Land and Water Fund. The Uwharrie Trail section is entirely on US Forest Service land though. Help us celebrate this great conservation success story by joining us on this hike on National Public Lands Day.

Please join us for our first ever Three Rivers Land Trust hosted paddle at Crystal Lake! This is a gorgeous lake located near Vass in Moore County. It is a flat water lake at the put-in but as you paddle across the lake you end up in the headwaters of a stream, which is a flooded black gum swamp. It’s a really neat place to explore. We expect water lilies and spatterdock to be blooming, and we are likely to spot lots of great birds including kingfishers, great blue herons, great egrets and more.

Address: 216 Camp Easter Road , Lakeview, NC, 28350

Time to start: Arrive by 8:30am, on the water by 9:00am. Expected duration of 2 hours to complete the 3-mile roundtrip paddle.

Please bring: kayak or canoe, paddle, lifejacket (all participants must wear their lifejackets while on the water), hat, bug spray, sunscreen, water, snacks, water shoes, dry bag for keys/phone.

If you have any questions, contact Crystal at crystal@trlt.org or 704-647-0302.

We look forward to seeing you there!
